Thoughts and Memos on PVDA Membership and PR - by Alison Simon-Kissel

Rust Library Display Case

Thanks to all who contributed to the Rust Library window display. Jean, Pat, Barbara, Fran and myself all had pieces outlining different styles of decorative painting including stroke, still life, Rogalund, etc, all executed in bottle acrylics and Genesis. Due to the stylings of Pat the overall display turned out to be very attractive. According to the library ladies quite a few people stopped to look at the sampling of decorative painting. And all of the SDP brochures had been picked up as well!

Random Thoughts on Promoting PVDA
  • What is it that first attracted you to Decorative Painting?
  • Did a friend encourage you to try at her dining room table?
  • Did you see a demo?
  • Did you pick up a book and brush and try it all alone?
  • What got you interested in SDP and PVDA?
All of these memories can help us build a bigger and more diverse chapter of members. And the way in which you were initially "stung" with the painting bug is key to developing a good membership enhancement program. Please share your Decorative Painting stories. We'd really like to hear about how you discovered you could paint and create. And all about that first project that you finished, looked at, and said: "Wow! I did that!"

Ideas for the 2003 Drive include:
Bring a friend to paint day
Demonstations at area locations
Sponsorship of a craft show booth
Participation in Decorative Painting Month
Press releases of chapter activities in local newspapers
Referral awards
And much more!
